The girls at <i><b>making faces</b></i> understand that prom can be stressful. Between finding "<i>the</i>" dress, accessories, the perfect shoes, and the right date- a girl can feel just a little strapped for time.<br />

Among all of these stresses is the quest to create the perfect look for your face. For six years, <i><b>making faces</b></i> has given prom-goers a moment to breath as our talented staff of make-up artists add a professional touch to the magical moment that is prom night.<br />

This prom season, the <b>Portsmouth Herald</b> accompanied a group of Portsmouth High School Seniors to <i><b>making faces</b></i>. <br />

<b>Prom prep: Making teen faces shine</b><br />

<i>Editor's note: This is the second story in a series following a group of Portsmouth High School seniors to their May 30 prom. Look for the next story on Sunday, May 11.</i></blockquote><br />
<blockquote>Danielle Crepeau, a beauty advisor at Making Faces, was ready for our three prom girls. It is interesting that Crepeau walked into Making Faces when she was a junior in high school looking for a job. The owner hired her, part-time, and now Daniellle is a senior at UNH and has been working at Making Faces all this time.<br />
<br />
Our girls got their makeovers for free, thanks to the generosity of Making Faces.<br />
<br />
Only one, Becca Goldfarb, said she regularly wore makeup, but Katy Beckwith and Dawn Brown were not hesitant to try out what was on hand.<br />
<br />
Danielle asked Becca what she normally wore on her face.<br />
<br />
"Oh, just some eyeliner, mascara and a bit of eye shadow, usually brown," said Becca.<br />
<br />
Becca didn't want anything crazy. For the junior prom, she had her makeup done, but when she got home she washed it off and did it herself.<br />
<br />
Danielle doesn't want this to happen to her clients!<br />
<br />
"I ask them what they want and what they hate," said Danielle, "If they are not happy, then I'm not happy, and I'm a bit of a perfectionist, too."<br />
<br />
Since our last story, Becca has a date for the prom: Reed. She says this happened just after the last story ran. Enough about this for now.<br />
<br />
Danielle uses a fine brush to apply a combination of concealer and foundation on Becca. She always uses a brush. Not only is this more hygienic, but it uses less product than a sponge and is far easier to blend for a natural look.<br />
<br />
While Danielle is applying foundation, Becca talks about her major when she will attend UNH in the fall.<br />
<br />
"I like what my mom does, because she works with autistic children," said Becca. "I want to major in speech therapy and do the same sort of work."<br />
<br />
Dawn is also going to UNH where she will major in athletic training, as well as hoping to join a brass ensemble.<br />
<br />
<div class="articleGraf">Katy is the only one not going to UNH. She will go to Roger Williams in Bristol, R.I., where she plans to major in history.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />

</div><div class="articleGraf">Becca, Dawn and Katy are not having their hair professionally done for the prom. They plan to meet at one of their homes and do each other's hair. Each girl has long hair and plans on a simple style. No fancy hair stuff, but the makeup is good!</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">When asked if they were excited about the prom, all said "not yet." What is most exciting at the moment is the upcoming PHS band competition trip to Orlando, on April 27.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">Katy and Dawn both play the French horn and the melophone. Becca plays the clarinet.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">"Look at my right shoulder," Danielle instructs Katy, as she applies mascara to her upper lid. Katy does. Katy has never really worn makeup before, but she is liking it.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">We are looking at Becca looking at herself in the mirror. The makeup is incredible and she is lovely. The shiny lip gloss adds a glow to her lips.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">"Usually, I wear tinted lip balm," said Becca, "but this is far better!"</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">Danielle uses a green primer on Katy, who has a reddish tone to her face.</div><br />
<div class="articleGraf">"Now you look like a Trek!" said Danielle.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">"I've always really wanted a green face," joked Katy.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">Curiously enough, the lime green primer does not appear as green when applied. It neutralizes red tones in the skin.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">As the makeup is being applied, the girls chat.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">Becca hopes her date, Reed, will dance. Dawn knows her date, Nate, will dance and she wonders just how wildly he will dance. Katy is not yet sure about her date.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">"It won't bother me if I don't have a date," said Katy. "It will still be fun, but I'll probably end up with one of my male friends."</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">Dawn's turn comes and she is ready to be the glitter girl. Katy told Danielle she looked like a glitter girl. This was a compliment!</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">Someone interrupts to ask Danielle about how to make lipstick last.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">"It's best if you use a lip liner and fill in the whole lip, then apply the lipstick. This will make it last longer," said Danielle.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">As Katy is finished, all the girls gush. Katy has never worn makeup before and she looks natural, yet finished and lovely.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">Dawn wants the full works. She is ready for some glitter.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">"I like it," Dawn said, "we go to the 'Rocky Horror' show every summer and love to put on all the makeup we can."</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">"Go wild," Dawn tells Danielle as her cell phone rings. She plucks it from an inside pocket in her overalls, hands it over to Katy.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">It was Nate, but he didn't seem to know he wasn't speaking to Dawn, as Dawn and Katy sound a bit alike.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">While Danielle is applying the foundation to Dawn, Katy says she likes the way her eyebrows look.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">"I don't look like my dad, who looks like ZZ Top. He has a beard and lots of hair." Dawn helped Nate pick out tux, but gave him a few options. He could not go for the yellow Zoot suit. I said "absolutely not."</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">Becca said she didn't have to go with her date, Reed, as he has such good taste.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">"I wouldn't date him if he didn't have such good taste!" Becca joked.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">Dawn said she had not yet danced with her date, Nate, but could "just imagine."</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">Becca and Katy said they could dance together. They didn't have to have a date to dance!</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">Oh my! The glitter is on and Dawn looks incredible. Her blue eyes are so blue it's as if she were wearing colored contacts. She is not. It's all the work of the markup artist supreme, Danielle. It is a fantastic job and Dawn is transformed from the lithe swimmer to one very hot chick.</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
</div><div class="articleGraf">"I'm coming to Making Faces so Danielle can do my makeup for the prom," said Dawn, "I can't do it like Danielle can."</div><div class="articleGraf"><br />
